After an incredibly successful academic year, during which we raised lots of money for various causes, such as Unity, Positive Action in Housing and John Oguchukwu, university has finished for the summer. Thanks to everyone who made this last year such a success and if you’ve gone home for summer, then we hope to see you again in September! Our weekly meetings won’t be happening over the break.

That doesn’t mean that we’re not doing anything! There are lots of volunteering opportunities which you can get involved with.

Our friends at Unity have several ways you can help out!

  1. World Cafe (Tuesday 10-4pm) – Prepare, cook and serve free, healthy food to asylum seekers from the local community.
  2. Work in the charity shops or the “Nae Borders” bookshop.
  3. Help out with the Unity Women’s Project (Monday 10-5pm.)
  4. Come along and provide practical support and advice in the Unity Centre itself.

They also run the Night Shelter, which takes place in the Lansdowne Church on Great Western Road (near Kelvinbridge Subway station). This provides shelter and food to destitute asylum seekers in Glasgow and is a very valuable project which really needs more volunteers.

Contact starglasgow@googlemail.com for details.

We’ll also be organising various protests over the summer when key issues arise so keep an eye out for more information about these!
