This week STAR made another trip to watch the next film in GRAMNet’s 2013 series.  The film being screened was “Nickel City Smiler”.  It dealt primary with the story of Smiler Greer and his family who had been forced to leave Burma due to horrendous persecution by the Burmese government as they were Karen people.  The family, along with many others, were offered the chance of resettlement in America after spending time in Refugee camps.  The film explores the flaws in the American system, which were surprisingly similar to our own and Smiler’s own experiences and perceptions of being a refugee.

The group enjoyed the film very much, and I’m sure would recommend you to watch it – should you get the chance.  Here’s the trailer –
