This week’s STAR welcome guest speakers Amie from the Friends of Tibet Edinburgh group and Yadon Lhaho, a Tibetan Refuge, heavily involved with the charity Nomadic Survival who aim to transfer midwifery skills to the nomadic women of Tibet for whom giving birth is a massive danger.

First of all Amie conducted a workshop on the basics of Tibet, surprising some of us with how little we actually knew, and then leading us through a game ‘Escape from Tibet’ that highlighted famous cases of Chinese brutality and opened our eyes to the pain and suffering that so many Tibetans must go to the escape Chinese rule.

Following this, Yadon shared her experiences of being a Tibetan refugee.  Listen to Yadon speak was so powerful, and so saddening but I’m sure that everyone in that meeting felt inspired to do something to help.

Many STAR Glasgow members will be heading through to Edinburgh on March 10 for the Tibetan Uprising Protest.  Here is the flyer for the event – (CLICK ME) and the Facebook page

More info will be posted later.

Next week – there will be a workshop on “What students can do to help refugees and asylum seekers”
