Last week six members of STAR journeyed out to the south side of Glasgow to see the short play Mazloom.

Mazloom was created during a series of workshops with young afghan men who are seeking asylum in the UK, as a means for them to explore their feelings through art and as such the play was based on an amalgamation of their experiences in the UK and, in particular dealing with the UKBA.  It was a very powerful play to watch, although difficult too, but I think we’re all glad that we had the opportunity to see it in Glasgow.

After the play there was music and spoken word by one of the founders of “Seeds of Thought” a regular event in Glasgow, who is a Zimbabwean refugee and finally, the event was closed with a discussion on the subject of forced removals of young people and the unfair reality of the asylum system in the UK featuring representatives from NCADC, GRAMNet and Young People Seeking Safety.
